Double-dealing
A downloadable Card game
3 of clubs AUD201 project
This is the itch page for the group 3 of clubs project, for the first semester of year 2. studying game design and production.
This card game is not in its best possible condition as it has not been polished, not was there much group synergy to be able to meet a desired quality we would have all wanted. More work on this may be put in, in the future, but it is doubtful.
Main story
In the year 2025, select people went missing from their homes mysteriously, none of these people were necessarily related to each other, except from the fact they all communed at a society called the SSPR, this was a place for believers of the supernatural, but it wasn’t always just that…
The society blended from protestant beliefs that things that couldn’t be explained were works of the devil himself, the devil working with normal people during the 17th century. This belief was very strong in the small town of Salem; a small town of English protestants, filled with superstition and unfortunately a lot of disease and famine.
Unlike the people of this small town, a woman called Gaia lived past the coast from them, her family lived within this lighthouse for centuries, living in peace and solidarity amongst themselves, free from any judging eyes that may try to target them for being different. Gaia was very different from the rest of her family though. She claimed she could see dead people roaming around her home even as a kid, this resulting in her taking an extra job as an adult as a medium, though she didn’t share this news widely, only to her most trusted clients and family.
When Gaia was only 23 though, she was killed whilst her spouse was away on an expedition, she was hung on suspicion of witchcraft, her body left blowing in the wind outside her beloved home for her spouse to later find. Her spirit did not pass on though…
Her spirit grew restless, trapped within the confined space of her once comforting home, trapped for over 300 years. Her only escape to the outside world being through a crystal ball which she used to stalk the people who killed her, even holding her hatred against their descendants, which led to the present day.
Gaia had become sneaky and very cunning in her waiting, making deals with the dead from both the past and the future to give her strength, to not only bring them to her home, but to bring the mortals who she had kept a watchful eye on for so long, the descendants of her killers, and unknowingly to them, the members of an association called the SSPR.
There are only three outcomes for the unfortunate victims brought to this lighthouse now, the humans can use their knowledge on the supernatural to spot and eliminate the ghosts before the witches’ timer runs out, or the ghosts can successfully disguise as humans and escape along with the (Or rid of the humans). But if either of them were to fail, the witch will use their souls to unshackle herself from her bound and take her revenge on not only the family of her killers, but the whole of humanity, finally giving them a real reason to believe she is evil.
Game story overview
In 1692, Gaia was sentenced to be hanged due to her profession of speaking to the dead, by those who she deemed as friends . Over the span of over 300 years she's been plotting against the people whose ancestors caused her death as 'divine punishment'. She brought them all to her lighthouse, the same place she was trialled and hung, the place she had been bound to, but not for long. It is now a game of the living and the dead placed against each other, can a ghost fool the living and escape, unbinding the witch, or will the investigators snuff them all out. Only time will tell...
Gameplay Overview
You play as either an Investigator or a Ghost (drawn at random from the narrator, who is another player) with unique abilities and items. Each day, players can discuss and interact with one another. During the night, players can use either an item or their unique ability. When the night is over, all the effects of the items and abilities happen, and the players can choose if they want to hold a vote to cast a player out of the game this day/night cycle, then repeat until the game is over.
Win Conditions
The Investigators win if all the ghosts have been voted out.
The Ghosts win if there are either no Investigators or if there is one Ghost and it leaves with the investigators.
On the other hand, after 10 turns, the game will end, resulting in no team winning, and the narrator wins.
